The Water Below Us

A Public Art Installation about South Florida’s Water Cycle

2024

Inspiration - create a public art installation that could live in a busy pedestrian street and bring attention to the threats facing our water supply in South Florida, while educating onlookers about solutions.

Vision to Reality

With the help of the creatives at Vaco Studios, SunkenBlimp and Miami Design Lab, we created a vision for The Water Below Us. The hanging cylinder represents a well, but also the infinitely circular nature of the water cycle and our interconnectivity. The illustration on the inside of the well, created by Nic Vasquez, shows the journey of our water as it travels through the environment into our taps and back out to sea. Through augmented reality, the installation takes on another dimension as the Everglades pops up around the piece, and viewers are able to explore each phase of the water cycle along with facts about threats and solutions. Thanks to a grant from the City of Coral Gables Cultural Arts Department, we brought The Water Below Us to life and it was displayed on Giralda Plaza for two months.

Explore the Digital Experience

A landing page was created with all the information held within the public art installation experience in order to share the resource with South Florida educators and expand the reach of the awareness campaign.
